The tempestuous Florence Welch and director Vincent Haycock are back with a new instalment in a series of videos for her upcoming album How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, and once again reality transforms into something far more theatrical, as Florence is caught in an intense struggle with her self-destructive alter-ego.
Acting up like a monstrous tantrum-throwing inner child, this alternative Florence is played by Deena Thompson, who also featured Welch and Haycock’s lovely video for St Jude. For Ship To Wreck, the setting moves to London, but the visual style and themes established in the previous videos remains – flowing camerawork, passionate relationships evoked through drama and modern dance.
This has a stronger focus on Florence’s personal demons, shot through with wry humour, as she storms through life in a flurry of violent outbursts and sleeping pills…
