Spring King Rectifier

Screen-Shot-2016-02-13-at-23.37.43.png

Manchester garage-poppers Spring King have unveiled ‘Rectifier’, a brand new single and the band’s first since signing to Island Records.

Jumpy and fidgety as ever, it’s a track that sees the group up the ante on that early promise. Pairing shifty atmospherics with their frenetic pace, it’s a promising hint at their debut album, expected this year. Stream it below – it’ll be out as a limited 7” on March 25th.

That’ll be released on Island Records, the band’s new home. The news comes after a massive, breakthrough 2015 for Spring King, which saw them become the first band ever played on Apple’s Beats 1 radio station (by none other than professional excitement generator Zane Lowe) and subsequently zoom towards the head of the pack, capping it all off with their mammoth ‘Who Are You?’ single. Catch up with the DIY feature on how Spring King finally broke though.

Spring King play the following dates, including one of Wolf Alice’s London Forum dates and a load of shows amongst some fancy trees with Kaiser Chiefs:

Victorinox FW16

Taking over the NY Swiss Institute with a multiscreen installation.
Victorinox commissioned us to showcase their FW-16 collection through an innovative installation as part of NYFW at the Swiss Institute in NYC.

We used a mixture of CGI and live action footage to create four distinct environments for four key looks of the collection to be played over a five times HD sized projection. The projection spanned over three walls of the art gallery while sound and video were controlled by a custom software. The software mixed 100s of renders and live action footage and a 32 channel soundtrack together in real time as a never-ending film.

Brotherhood -The End

Noel Clarke is gearing up to complete his ‘hood’ trilogy with Brotherhood, the follow up to 2006’s Kidulthood and 2008’s Adulthood.img-noel-clarke_1146346448-600x437.jpg“We are really excited to be gearing up for Brotherhood,” said Jason Maza of Unstoppable Entertainment. “Noel has written a script that is as relevant now as Kidulthood was in 2006. It’s a film that we believe opens up a new, younger audience as well as remaining true to original fans of the franchise. We couldn’t be happier to be working with Lionsgate UK, and we are confident that together we will complete our trilogy in a way that builds on the success enjoyed so far.”

ESPA PRESENTS THE VISUALS FOR ‘SWAN SONG’ FEATURING GIGGS VIA SBTV

Following on from their well-received collaboration, ‘Rodney’, a few months back, Espa teams up with Flatbush Zombies‘ Erick Arc Elliot once again for her new Giggs-assisted single, ‘Swan Song’.

“Swan Song has been the canvas on which I have tried to paint a soundscape that marries some of my weird and wonderful influences. I must be the luckiest girl in the world to get to work with seminal UK rapper, Giggs, at the same time as being produced by Erick Arc Elliott. Together we have fused UK rap with East Coast hiphop, and added a dash of impressionist classical music for good measure. We’re an unlikely trio but sometimes out of the most surprising collaborations something magical is created.” – Espa

Lloyds Bank Florist

Lloyds Bank’s new B2B campaign celebrates small business owners with online films showing them getting their moment in the limelight.

Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R created the video-on-demand ads, the first of which features a florist. The spot opens on a celebrity being hounded by paparazzi as she leaves a shop and the florist trails behind her carrying flowers. The focus then shifts to the florist who, by the end of the ad, is getting a photoshoot of her own. Two more films, about an electrician and a courier, will run later, alongside a radio ad voiced by Nick Hewer, the Countdown presenter.

The Bohicas – The Making Of

Essex-based Domino signees The Bohicas (an acronym for “bend over, here it comes again”) have been on our radar ever since they released ‘XXX/Swarm’ back in 2013. It was an impressive first couple of singles, and enough to realise that the leather jacketed outfit had huge potential to transcend the small gig circuit and crack the bigger stages.

Now with eleven tracks of arena-ready choruses set to explosive, hook-heavy guitars and frantic drumming executed to a level that the best punk and rock ‘n’ roll bands manage, they seem well on their way with ‘The Making Of’.

They also have a staunchly charismatic frontman in Dominic McGuinness. He comes from a talented family and, like his brother and fellow Domino-signee Eugene, manages to harness elements of The Beatles and The Kinks with a more direct rock sensibility. His extroverted nature comes through well in the lyrics which are often bold statements, mostly about chasing a girl. Admittedly it’s hardly a new approach of lyricism, but when something classic is done well it’s hard to discredit.

The production on the album helps it shine too, with a string of impressive names: Mark Rankin (Queens Of The Stone Age, Bombay Bicycle Club), Chris, ‘Merrick’ Hughes (Tears For Fears, Adam And The Ants) and Oli Bayston (Toy, Boxed In). Together they’ve produced an album which manages to sound slick while also capturing the raw energy of the band’s live sound.

‘The Making Of’ might’ve just set the bar for what a guitar band are expected to achieve with a first album in 2015.
